Last week, the Faith Formation students discussed gratitude. The younger classes joined in a prayer of thanksgiving, each sharing something they were grateful for, emphasizing everyday blessings and ways to show gratitude. They then created colorful "gratitude leaves," writing or drawing what they were thankful for, and hung them on a class Gratitude Tree. They also decorated wooden pumpkin centerpieces to take home to include on their Thanksgiving tables. The older students focused on gratitude as related to service by reflecting on what they are grateful for, sharing their thoughts, and creating Fall Tree Scratch Cards to symbolize how gratitude reveals the beauty in life. They then learned about the Trinity Cathedral Walk-In Ministry and its mission to support those in need. They created one example bag, and started making Christmas cards to include in the bags. Finally, they discussed the significance of Advent as a time of preparation and anticipation, tying their activities to the themes of gratitude, service, and the joy of Christ’s coming. We are ready for the Advent Season! "And the Word became flesh and lived among us." John 1:14

Last week, the younger students explored the theme of "The Great Light" from the prophecy of Isaiah 9:2. They began by discussing the changes in daylight as winter approaches and how this shift can remind us of darkness and light. This led into an introduction to Advent, a time of anticipation, and the role of prophets like Isaiah, who shared messages from God to help people prepare for someone special—Jesus, the “light of the world.” They also enjoyed making colorful tissue paper votive holders, symbolizing the light Jesus brings into the world. These votives serve as a reminder that even in darkness, we carry the light of Christ with us. The older students explored the lesson, "The Holy Bible and the Books that Comprise It", focusing on its importance as a single sacred book made up of many different books that tell the unified history of the Kingdom of God. Through hands-on materials, including a divided cabinet with books color-coded by Testament and marked with symbols to aid in organization, they discovered the unique sections of the Bible. They also reviewed the Nativity pageant script, connecting its scenes with specific Biblical references, deepening their understanding of how these narratives shape the season’s message and the broader narrative of God’s love. Last week, the Faith Formation students celebrated All Saints' Day by exploring the lives of saints as role models of faith. We began with a discussion on the meaning of All Saints' Day, emphasizing that it’s a time to remember those who have shown us how to live with love, courage, and kindness, including both well-known saints and people in our lives today. We also talked about how sainthood isn’t reserved for a select few; each of us is invited to follow Jesus’ example and bring love and goodness into the world. Afterwards, we visited the All Saints' Chapel, where students lit candles and reflected on what they learned. Later, we gathered in the refectory where the older students shared a short presentation on their favorite saints. We concluded with special treats in celebration of the community of faith that unites us and the reminder that we are all invited to live as saints.
