Nurturing Wonder and Awe

The splendor of summer is finally here! What better time to take a step back and ponder the majesty of creation? Wonder opens the door to a deeper connection with the divine and allows children to explore the beauty and mystery of the world around them.
Here are some ideas on how to foster a sense of wonder:
  1. Encourage Exploration: Encourage children to explore the world around them. Take them on nature walks, visit museums, or engage in hands-on activities that ignite their curiosity. Allow them to ask questions and seek answers.
  2. Embrace the Beauty of Creation: Help children recognize and appreciate the beauty of nature. Take time to admire a breathtaking sunset, marvel at the intricacy of a flower, or listen to the songs of birds. By nurturing a love for the natural world, we open the door to wonder.
  3. Nurture Imagination: Encourage children to let their imaginations soar. Provide them with opportunities for creative play, storytelling, and imaginative thinking. Foster an environment that values their unique ideas and encourages them to dream big.
  4. Engage in Spiritual Practices: Incorporate spiritual practices that invite wonder into your family routine. Whether it's through prayer, meditation, or simple acts of gratitude, teach children to slow down and appreciate the divine presence in their lives.
  5. Be an Example: Let children witness our genuine awe and joy in the presence of God. Share stories of our own experiences of wonder and encourage conversations about faith and spirituality.
By nurturing wonder in our children, we help them develop a lifelong connection to the divine and cultivate a deep appreciation for the world in which they live.

“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement… get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.” —Abraham Joshua Heschel
